The Veterinary Technician - Surgery is responsible for the general nursing care and treatment of patients undergoing surgical procedure. The surgery technician will partner with the surgeon to provide an exceptional experience for clients and patients
Surgery technician responsibilities:
Patient admit and discharge
Client communication and education
Assist in surgical procedures (Scrub nurse and/or circulator)
Have knowledge of instrumentation and equipment needed for surgical procedures. Care and maintenance of surgical instruments and equipment
Essential duties of a Veterinary technician at Wheat Ridge, Including but not limited to:
Provide basic husbandry for patients
Perform appropriate patient restraint
Perform treatments on patients as directed by the veterinarian
Provide support to veterinarians and assist in other departments as requested
Ability to collect and submit samples for diagnostic testing
Intravenous catheter placement and fluid administration
Obtain quality radiographs
Triage and perform life saving procedures (CPR) when necessary
Have working knowledge of hospital HIS (ezyVet) and Whiteboard (SmarFlow)
Responsibilities are subject to change to meet the needs of the department and hospital
Education, License and Job Requirements:
3+ Years of experience as a veterinary technician, Surgery experience preferred
CVT, LVT, RVT, not required but a plus
Fear Free Certification a plus
Skills and Experience:
Must be reliable, organized, and adaptable to changes within the departments of the hospital
Will serve as a representative of the hospital, displaying consideration, courtesy, compassion, and professionalism in all interactions with patients, clients, and hospital staff
Will maintain a high standard of patient care
Must be able to communicate well with clients by showing care and concern for them as well as their pet(s).
Must understand and support the Hospital?s mission and overall direction.
