Position Overview:

Persons in this position are responsible for all Laboratory pre-analytic and post-analytic processes. Supervisor will provide oversight and participate in, monitoring and instruction to ensure that specimens are collected, received, routed and processed such that appropriate testing can occur. Supervisor will provide oversight and participate in, monitoring and instruction for result routing and faxing of completed test results, Laboratory phlebotomy operations, specimen collection and associated employee competency. Ensure that testing not performed by Montrose Memorial Hospital are processed and shipped per testing lab requirements and that results that are not received by direct interface are entered into the Lab electronic health record.

The Supervisor is responsible to the Pathologists and Lab Manager.

Essential Functions:

  1. Responsible for oversight, and participation, of Laboratory specimen collection process based upon established guidelines and procedures.

  2. Responsible for oversight of phlebotomy staff continuing education.

  3. Responsible for oversight of Laboratory staff phlebotomy competency.

  4. Responsible for oversight of phlebotomy staff orientation and annual evaluations.

  5. Maintains appropriate staff for the proper operation of the department.

  6. Oversight of all supplies and equipment needed for collection, processing, or shipment of Laboratory samples are available as needed.

  7. Oversight of Laboratory out-patient satisfaction.

  8. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee will routinely work with specimens that are potentially infections and/or biohazardous and must use appropriate protective equipment.

Qualifications & Skills:

a) Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Computer skills.

b) Training & Experience: Three years laboratory experience demonstrating knowledge/experience of Laboratory pre-analytic and post-analytic processes.
