  • Reporting to the LMS Safety & Health Manager, the primary responsibility/function of the senior Radiological Control Technician (RCT) is to assist with the implementation of the Radiation Protection Program throughout the Legacy Management Program, interfacing with multiple organizations across the DOE LM complex

  • Support LMS Operational Project Leads (Project Managers) with the implementation of technical work, covering a wide range of radiological and safety and health (S&H) aspects.

  • Additional responsibilities of senior RCT include providing unsupervised radiological and S&H work coverage.

  • Identify and troubleshoot safety and radiological issues/ concerns, implementing appropriate controls/measures to mitigate identified radiological and S&H concerns.

  • The senior RCT must be able to correctly obtain and record radiological survey results, compose and write technical radiological reports, compose and write Radiological Work Permits, perform compliance audits and evaluations, both in Grand Junction, CO and at other LM site locations across the country.

  • The senior RCT must be able to perform Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), develop and implement appropriate safety controls, and make changes to safety controls when deemed necessary.

Requirements

  • AS/ Tech Degree in Physical Science, Math, Engineering, or Health Physics

  • At least 20 years of RCT/Health Physicist Technician (HPT) work experience, with a minimum of 10 years cumulative experience as a DOE-qualified RCT, working at a DOE site/project.

  • At least 5 years’ experience providing RCT/HPT support at environmental-type radiological projects.

  • The selected senior RCT must have the technical knowledge to be able to successfully pass both a written and oral RCT examination and the technical knowledge necessary to successfully complete LMS site-specific RCT Job Performance Measures.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, effective organization and planning skills, and the ability to interact and communicate effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.

  • The ability to understand and follow instructions precisely.

  • The ability to work independently and with a team.

  • The ability to competently use of “standard” RCT radiological survey instrumentation.

  • Proficiency with personnel computers.

  • Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel; RESRAD; and MicroShield. Visual Sample Plan and other MARSSIM-type support software a plus.

  • Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearances requirements, US citizenship is required.

Required Certifications/ Licenses:

  • A valid and current State’s drivers’ license.

  • Be able to pass a DOE RCT Core Academic written examination.

  • Be able to pass a DOE RCT Qualification Oral examination board.

  • Be able to successfully complete the LMS RCT Continuing Training, every 2 years.

Desired Qualifications, Experience, or Proficiencies:

  • Visual Sample Plan and other MARSSIM-type support software a plus.

  • experience working where 10 CFR 835, Occupation Radiation Protection Program regulations exist and are implemented.

  • Experience working where 10 CFR 851, Worker Safety and Health Program, OSHA, NFPA, DOT, and EPA regulations exist and are implemented.

  • Current registration with the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists, as a Registered Radiation Protection Technologist (RRPT).

  • Board certifications with the Board of Certified Safety Professional (BCSP), specifically holding current OHST or other safety related BCSP certifications.
