There is a student internship available in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's (NREL) National Bioenergy Center, in Golden, Colorado. NREL is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. We have an immediate opening for a full-time undergraduate or graduate intern.
NREL’s National Bioenergy Center is conducting research to improve the production of renewable fuels and chemicals, from various waste streams including biomass and methane. The intern will assist in the development and evaluation of microbial strains for the conversion of waste streams to fuels and chemicals. This is an excellent opportunity for a student who desires to obtain relevant laboratory experience in preparation for graduate school or a career in the biofuels or chemical industries.
This position requires the ability to conduct laboratory experiments, sometimes with minimal supervision, with the utmost regard to safety. Experience with relevant general molecular biology and microbiology techniques (cell culture, sterility, sample preparation) is desirable.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Internship period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Please Note: Before interview selection, you will need to provide unofficial transcripts to verify GPA and full time enrollment.
Preferred qualifications include
Familiarity with analytical techniques such as LC and GC
Undergraduate/graduate student in molecular biology or related discipline with a desire to work in a laboratory setting and gain experience in biofuels research.
