The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has an immediate opening for a full-time postdoctoral researcher in the National Bioenergy Center, in Golden, Colorado. NREL is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
NREL’s National Bioenergy Center is conducting research to improve biomass conversion to fuels and chemicals, particularly on biomass pretreatment and lignin valorization. The postdoctoral associate will assist in the development and evaluation of chemical catalysts and processes for the depolymerization of lignin.
The successful candidate will have:
A PhD degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related field
Demonstrated experience with lignin depolymerization, lignin analytics, and catalyst design
The ability to conduct laboratory experiments under minimal supervision, with the utmost regard to safety and with attention to detail
An ability to learn new techniques and protocols
Familiarity with relevant, analytical methods (GC and HPLC) and chemical synthesis and separations techniques
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
Preferred qualifications include experience in biomass conversion, organic synthesis to produce lignin model compounds, and comprehensive analytics capabilities in lignin characterization.
