The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development, and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The National Bioenergy Center at NREL has an opening for a full time Postdoctoral Researcher. The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal.
The successful candidate will focus on the discovery, expression, purification, and detailed characterization of new enzymes for aromatic catabolism and biological lignin depolymerization. Characterization of enzymes will include measurements of substrate specificity, kinetics, and inhibition. Enzyme engineering via structure-guided and evolutionary approaches will be critical to improving turnover. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and with the utmost regard to safety. The responsibilities for this position include characterization of novel enzymes, working in a large collaborative team, and authorship of peer-reviewed publications.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
A recent PhD. in Biochemistry, Biology, or a closely related field and demonstrated experience in enzyme characterization, engineering, and evolution.
