Job Description

This focus of this position is on the design and testing of electrodes with novel architectures to improve fast charging capabilities of lithium ion cells. This will involve building and testing coin cells with electrochemical characterization techniques (cycling and EIS) as well as in-situ acoustic diagnostics to validate performance improvements.

The position will also involve characterizing the structural properties of the electrodes with laser-ablated architectures through the use of microscopy techniques (FIB-SEM and X-ray CT) and the candidate will work closely with battery multi-physics modelers to simulate the performance of the novel electrode architectures.

This position will involve close collaboration with industry partners. Qualified candidates must demonstrate skill in interpreting and assessing the experimental results of their own work and that of others and have a demonstrated record of success from graduate and/or post-graduate work. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are essential. Teamwork and collaboration are essential and successful candidates will need the ability to partner and team internally and externally. Basic Qualifications

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.


Additional Required Qualifications

PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Chemistry, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or similar.

  • Knowledge of lithium-ion battery cell fabrication and cell testing.

  • Experience in characterization techniques include FIB-SEM, X-ray CT, and acoustic diagnostics is a plus.

  • Experience with laser systems and optics is a plus

  • Demonstration of research capability to solve challenging problems with minimal guidance.

  • Good communication and writing skills.

  • Creative, independent, innovative, and adaptable.
