Job Summary

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado, is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development, and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The National Bioenergy Center at NREL has an opening for a full time Postdoctoral Researcher. The initial appointment is for one year, with possible renewal.

Successful candidates will use metabolic engineering tools to integrate, evolve, and improve new pathways and new genes in engineered strains for production of renewable fuels and chemicals from various biomass-derived intermediates. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and with the utmost regard to safety. The requirements for this position include generation of novel, engineered strains and authorship of peer-reviewed publications.

This position requires a recent Ph.D. in Biological Engineering, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field and demonstrated experience in metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, and strain and enzyme evolution.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with metabolic flux analysis, analytical chemistry, biochemical engineering, ability to communicate scientific results effectively, both written and oral, and the ability to work effectively in a large, multidisciplinary team of engineers, chemists, and biologists.
