The Extreme Structures and Materials Laboratory under the supervision ofProfessor Leslie Lamberson in the Mechanical Engineering Department at theColorado School of Mines is searching for a postdoctoral researcher to supportrelated endeavors on two grants through the Office of the Naval Research andthe Army Research Laboratory which involve the dynamic characterization ofmetals. The position will also have a large experimental equipmentdevelopment component involving a currently existing light-gas accelerator inthe lab. This position has available start dates between 10/12/20 and1/4/21 and there is potential for it to be renewed for up to 2 years(with increased salary).Characteristic DutiesConducts experimental and analytical research as it relates to the dynamiccharacterization of metals (and aids in other research projects to a lesserextent as needed)Help develop dynamic experimental capability in the laboratoryHelps to oversee graduate student research as it relates to project goals andmeeting project milestonesWorks with a diverse team of co-PI's, research faculty, and graduate studentsWrites reports and creates technical presentations quarterly, or as neededPresents at conferences and leads publication efforts based on researchendeavorsMinimum RequirementsApplicants must hold a doctoral degree in engineering or a related fieldStrong teamwork and communication skills are required.Preferred QualificationsFamiliarity with Kolsky (split-Hopkinson) bar experiments is strongly desiredFamiliarity with digital image correlation and optical imaging, along withother metrology techniques is strongly desired, as well as MATLAB and LaTeX.How to applyApplicants must complete an online application and upload:CV (3 pages or less),Cover letter describing relevant skills, and theNames of no fewer than three (3) referees, including the applicant'sPhD advisor.
