The Department of Art & Art History at Colorado State University seeks applicants for a full-time tenure track position in Art Education to begin January 1, 2020. We seek an exceptional educator, scholar, and artist who will join our team of dynamic, creative professionals in studio art, art history, and art education. We especially invite applicants who have experience working with underrepresented populations and/or diversity initiatives.
We seek a candidate who is an outstanding scholar, maker, and enthusiastic educator who will actively contribute to our Art Education program and help develop curriculum for a new graduate degree. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in research, art making, and program/curriculum development and must value working collaboratively and with diverse student populations in teaching and research.

Required Job Qualifications
Doctorate (PhD or EdD) in Art Education with demonstrated PK-12 teaching experience, and/or a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Degree in Art with substantial (eight or more years) PK-12 teaching and knowledge of current practices in art education. Successful candidates should demonstrate a significant scholarly/creative agenda is underway as well as a growing record of successful teaching at the university level. The successful candidate will have the breadth and knowledge to teach art education foundations, technology/studio, and/or methods courses addressing trends and topics current in the field as well as the flexibility to supervise student teachers. In addition to their area of specialty, the successful candidate will also be conversant in the historical and contemporary movements within the field of art education. The successful candidate will be developing online courses, therefore past experience or a willingness to train is expected.
Preferred Job Qualifications
Commitment to collaborate in developing and teaching graduate courses in a new hybrid (online and residential) MA program in art education/community arts; excellent writing and communication skills; a clear vision for the future of art education as well as art education’s place in academia; a willingness to promote the Colorado State University art and art history program; and a knowledge of grant writing. Research interests can include, but are not limited to, one of the following: museum education, technology in art education, studio art, service learning and community arts, curriculum development, visual/material culture, inclusive practices in art education, arts-based and qualitative inquiry. This person will also be able to build relationships with colleagues and PK-12 educators in the state of Colorado and demonstrate experience working with underrepresented populations and/or diversity initiatives.

Teaching load consists of five commitments per year that could include undergraduate and graduate courses, supervision of student teachers, and/or curatorial projects at Colorado State University’s Gregory Allicar Art Museum. In addition, the successful candidate may work closely with community-based arts education organizations and constituents in area public schools, and will have the opportunity to develop new or revised offerings at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Involvement with interdisciplinary graduate programming, museum programming, and other teaching within the department is encouraged.
