University of Denver Teaching Professor (Open Rank) and Academic Director, Health Informatics Program in Denver, Colorado

The Teaching Professor and Academic Director is responsible for various concentrations in the Healthcare Informatics program. This role requires expertise in such areas as clinical and academic environments, health IT project management, workflow and gap analysis, clinical informatics, data mining, and principles of data science. The primary responsibilities are teaching, overall program management, with emphasis on student experience from recruiting to alumni relations, and developing internal and external partnerships and collaborations. This position partners with the Academic Director of Healthcare Management and reports to the Dean to ensure that the content of the various concentrations is current, high quality, and meets the needs of employers and students. The Academic Director also works to ensure that the student experience aligns course curricula with health industry expectations, including service learning. The Academic Director will work closely with the Healthcare extended team (Healthcare Programming Director, academic recruiter /advisor, instructional support specialists, program coordinator, and members of student services) to assure quality course delivery, support student advising, address student issues, provide support to faculty, attract new students to the program, and build internal and external partnerships. The successful candidate must be willing to be part of and promote an inclusive team and work culture. The Academic Director is also assigned a teaching load per academic year. The role has inherent responsibility to provide advising to students concerning the program and their careers as appropriate. In addition, the Academic Director represents the College at University and community events. The position is a full-time, benefited position and is a non-tenured, appointed faculty position in the teaching series. Teaching rank is determined based on years of experience, teaching expertise, and is renewable contingent on formal performance review.

The Teaching Professor and Academic Director is responsible for the following concentrations within the Health Informatics Program:
- Digital Health
- Health Data Informatics and Analytics
- Health Data Science
Specific responsibilities with respect to these concentrations include:
- Curricula assessment.
- Teach select courses in the concentration areas.
- Review and approve student applicants.
- Integrate practical application into the student experience.
- Train and provide support for faculty teaching.
- Monitor student and faculty experience.
- Perform faculty observations and develop mentoring plans.
- Support student advising, address student and faculty issues.
- Collaboratively work to foster high touch and individualized student experience.
- Develop industry relationships to ensure the curricula are responsive to employer needs and current with respect to technologies and practices.
- Assist in identifying and executing new partnerships and collaborative opportunities.
- Develop and maintain program metrics and visual management.
Other responsibilities include:
- Assist with logistics of new programs including planning and execution.
- Attend local and regional events for student recruitment.
- Assist with enrollment reconciliation.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives.
- Provide input regarding marketing strategies, collateral, and digital media.
- Develop and maintain relationships with industry specific professional associations.
- Participate in board membership for selected collaborative projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal skills, management of budgets, and proficiency in computer applications.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret industry literature, professional journals, technical procedures, and/or government regulations.
- Ability to create and utilize analytics to inform decision-making.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, course descriptions and outcomes, degree or program proposals, and procedural manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, faculty, co-workers, and and the general public.
- Ability to execute a hands-on and collaborative approach to leadership and teamwork.
- Ability to solve practical problems with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team-oriented environment as well as independently to meet deadlines, achieve goals, and provide program structure.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
- Strong management, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Master's degree in health-related, technology, or other relevant discipline.
- Demonstrable expertise and mentorship in the implementation, use, and/or evaluation of health information technology tools.
- Familiarity and proficiency with commonly used health analytics tools.
- Strong management, teamwork, communication, and problem solving skills.
- Previous teaching experience.
- Curricula development and evaluation experience.
- Earned doctorate in a relevant field.
- Knowledge of best practices in both face-to-face and online course delivery.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to hiring faculty and recruiting students from diverse and varied backgrounds.
- Experience with building, fostering, and sustaining industry partnerships.
