The Site Safety & Environmental Representative will be project assigned and responsible for upholding and enforcing IHC’s safety and environmental policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the materials and ability to effectively communicate with all IHC personnel is critical however; the position requires a solution based mindset. Finding things wrong / unsafe / out of compliance is easy – anticipating potential problems and finding the solution quickly and with little or no impact on production / schedule / cost is the goal of a good Safety & Environmental Representative.
Responsibilities will include:
Personally review the plans, specifications and project schedule to determine if any special safety concerns exist and what environmental procedures are required and plan for them.
Make sure that all S&E requirements for any item of work are addressed in the pre-work with an accompanying action plan to ensure no schedule disruptions occur.
Support the effort that every new hire, re-hire, worker and supervisor on the project understands their safety and environmental responsibilities. i.e., ensuring that all employees follow the S&E rules, report unsafe or out of compliance conditions and behaviors, file timely accident reports, complete accident investigations and implement corrective actions.
Mentor all supervisors and workers on how to eliminate unsafe behavior.
Coordinate with supervisors on injury / incident analyses / incidents that have an effect on the project, workers or the public.
Ensure an adequate supply of necessary specialized personal protective equipment, job safety materials and first-aid equipment for the job site.
Implement the division substance abuse testing program.
Continuously improve safety and environmental performance.
Maintain all safety and environmental records, reports, training documentation and all other pertinent safety and environmental documentation.
Must be able and willing to work on any projects in IHC’s Denver Division operating mostly in Colorado; work under very rigorous conditions – long hours and 6 to 7 days a week at times. Good communication skills are required and an ability to focus on tasks at hand, be a self-motivator, and to work well with others. Applicant must be at least 25 years old. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus
- Valid ID, background check, and drug screening are required for all applicants.
5 years of construction safety experience with a BCSP (Board of Certified Safety Professionals) designation (CHST, ASP, CSP) or 7 years of relevant construction safety and health experience with a Safety Management or equivalent engineering degree.
Current OSHA Train the Trainer certification (may be earned after hire) - OSHA 500
40 hour HAZWOPER (may be earned after hire)
Erosion Control Supervisor (may be earned after hire)
CPR, First Aid, AEF and blood-borne pathogens training course certifications (may be earned after hire)
Intimate knowledge of construction safety and environmental compliance requirements.
Excellent people skills & works well with others – team player!
Self-starter & educator
Possesses excellent organizational/coordination skills
Computer Skills must include: Microsoft Office (Excel/Word), Vista experience is a plus
Versed in all aspects of construction safety to include electrical, trench, LOTO, accident / incident investigations, HazCom, silica, OSHA inspections, confined space, fall protection and equipment safety.
Versed in all aspects of construction environmental compliance to include Storm Water, SPCC and GHS.
