General SummaryTo perform, on a very independent basis, all phases of experimentalgenetics/genomics investigations and to collaborate with PrincipalInvestigators and senior researchers in the progress of majorgenetics/genomics research projects. To act as technical advisor tolaboratory technical, support and auxiliary staff.Essential Responsibilities1. Performs, on a very independent basis, all phases of experimentalgenetics/genomics investigations, to include being responsible to thePrincipal Investigator in the planning, developing, operating,recording, collaborating and reporting of major genetics/genomics projects.2. Collaborates with Principal Investigators and senior researchers in theprogress of major research projects.3. Provides guidance to laboratory staff in one or more laboratory areas,including technicians, support and auxiliary staff. Performs as thetechnical advisor on complex analyses of gene and genetic variant functionthrough the performance and use gene-editing technologies and 2D, 3D,organoid cell culture models, and other sophisticated techniques.4. Serves as primary contact with researcher staff for technical services onmajor genetic/genomic techniques, recording devices and statisticalprocedures relative to the specifically assigned field.5. Reviews quality control of new or modified laboratory techniques whichaffect any part of major projects.6. Performs routine and non-routine tests leading to the successful completionof developed experiments. Knows and follows age-specific guidelines.7. Performs as a back-up to staff absences and vacancies, as necessary.8. Prepares scientific manuscripts related to the genetic/genomic analysesconducted.9. Performs all other duties as assigned.General Responsibilities1. Performs, as directed, safety compliance and uses Personal ProtectiveEquipment (PPE), as needed.2. Participates in Quality Assessment (QA) and Quality Improvement(QI) programs, as directed.3. Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission and all other Federal, Stateand Regulatory Agencies.4. Speaks positively about the institution,provides customers with prompt service, maintains a clean and safe workingenvironment, dresses appropriately based upon National Jewish safetystandards, and departmental policies and wears an ID badge visibly.Knowledge and SkillsExtensive knowledge of standard research practices and methods in the conductof biomedical research, but specifically in the conduct of gene-editing andcomplex 2D, 3D, and organoid tissue culture systems. Ability to design andplan complex genetic and molecular biology experiments. Ability to determinethe approach to a research problem which will give the most significantresults and to develop, lay out and plan the actual experiments to beperformed, and ability to devise new methods and techniques as needed inexperimentation. Ability to plan, organize and direct work of supportingpersonnel. Ability to prepare and write reports on research projects.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships withassociates, other research personnel and the general public.EducationM. D.; or, Ph. D. in genetics, genomics, biology, chemistry or otherbasic sciences required.Certification and LicensureNoneWork ExperienceExperience acquired in earning a Ph.
