National Jewish Health Medical Assistant (MA) II in Denver, Colorado

This position can be filled with a Medical Assistant I or Medical Assistant IIbased on skills and years of experience.Medical Assistant I:This is an entry level role at a Medical Assistant into our Adult SpecialtyClinics at National Jewish Health. The Medical Assistant I performs basicclinical activities in support of physician and nursing staff. It deliverssafe and appropriate patient care, within the scope of practice andestablished policies and procedures, under direct supervision of aRegistered Nurse.Medical Assistant II:To promote efficient, high quality physician clinic practice by providingguidance and leadership through collaborating with the team to manage patientflow and communications. To deliver safe and appropriate patient care withinthe scope of practice and established policies and procedures, under directthe direct support of a Registered Nurse. A Medical Assistant II is expectedto perform the responsibilities of a Medical Assistant I as well as thoseoutlined below.Essential Responsibilities:Medical Assistant I:Assists with assuring a complete patient record by recording in softwaresystems, vitals, (temperature, blood pressure, respiration,pulse) height and weight.Prepares patients for examination and treatment.Takes brief history and vital signs.Responsible for knowledge of software systems, including proper use oforder/reports/charging and maximizing personal proficiency.Performs quality spirometry with consistency in Jaeger system. Maintainsequipment with daily calibrations and appropriate use of the Jaeger system.Review charts and prepare for following day patient flow.Prepares exam and procedure rooms with necessary supplies.Gives injections, obtains specimens, performs venipunctures, and skin testing.Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatment, includingsterilization. Assists physicians in preparing for minor procedures orsurgeries.Facilitates the scheduling of tests and treatments with front desk staff(schedulers) and central scheduling dept. Screens telephone calls forreferral to physician.Follows protocol and process flow for prescription refills.Performs treatment as directed by the physician.Follows departmental policies and procedures.Performs Limited Scope x-rays and EKG's as directed.Updates patient files as appropriate.Attends required meetings. Reads and signs off on minutes when meetingconflicts with schedule or patient flow.Maintains patient confidentiality.Participates in professional development activities and internal/externalcustomer service.May provide back-up support for front desk and other areas as a MedicalAssistant.Performs all other duties as assigned.Medical Assistant II:Collaborates with RN and physician to manage clinic practice: Implementsplan for each clinic ahead of time to identify and anticipate potentialproblems; Monitors master schedule; Demonstrates ability to problem-solveeffectively when unexpected patient flow issues arise; Pages physicians whenpatients are ready for their visit. Coordinates telephone communications withpatients, families, referring providers, and other members of the healthteam; utilize follow-up system to assure care follow-up and coordination isaccContributes to the effectiveness of the assigned work area and theinstitution. Communicates appropriately to other staff members when leavingthe clinic area.Ensures a complete patient record by recording into the Patient Record vitalsigns (temperature, blood pressure, respiration, pulse) height andweight, and other information as required. Assists in the orientation of newstaff membersPrepares exam and procedure rooms with necessary supplies.Collects and correctly labels blood specimens from adult and pediatricpatients by venipuncture, fingerstick, or capillary techniques.
