National Jewish Health Director, Pharmacy in Denver, Colorado

Position SummaryResponsible for overall operation of Pharmacy Department. Provides oversightand management of pharmacy operations and regulatory, clinical,business, and financial aspects. Collaborates with other leaders andhospital staff to determine needs, resolve problems and improve processes.Leads innovation and advance practice principles in patient safety andpharmaceutical care. Develops, budget, policies, and procedures tosupport functional infrastructure.Essential DutiesManages and develops an effective staff: providing effectivecommunication, leadership, guidance and resources. Determines staffqualifications and competency: recruits, interviews, selects,hires, trains, orients, mentors, evaluates, coaches, counsels,disciplines, and rewards. Establishes and monitors staff safety andregulatoryDevelops, implements and maintains departmental and institutional policy andprocedures: Keeping up to date with regulatory and practice standardchanges, conforms to all current state and federal rules and regulations,Joint Commission standards, Colorado State Board of Pharmacy requirements,Drug Enforcement Agency regulation, as well as national best practicestandards for Pharmacy.Oversees efficient department financial operation through the preparation ofand adherence to annual operating budget. Provides reports and action plans onvariances.Plans, coordinates and monitors the productivity of services and developsnew programs and/or technology to increase revenue and improve patient care.Develops, plans and implements strategic goals of Pharmacy in alignment withorganizational goals.Negotiates and manages pharmacy-specific contracts: Evaluating new contractrelationships, and renewal requests, including insurance/pharmacybenefit manager contracts. Responding to pharmacy credentialing requests,maintaining the NCPDP profile. Preparing for and responding to insurancepharmacy desk and on-site audits.Assists research staff and sponsors in developing and implementing researchpolicy and procedures and oversees management of investigational drugstorage, preparation, tracking, dispensing and destruction. Sits onInstitutional Review Board (IRB) as the pharmacy specialist.Provides oversight and leadership of the 340B program. Maintains complianceand serves as the primary liaison and institutional expert regarding the 340BprogramParticipates in interdisciplinary Quality Improvement Committee activities:Initiating and reporting on departmental and multidisciplinary qualityassurance programsAdvise satellite locations on policy and procedure, regulatory changes andrequirements, and operations involving pharmaceuticals and/orpharmaceutical services.Facilitates the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee: Arranging meetings,coordinating members, constructing agenda, preparing reports and documentsrequired.Other DutiesPerforms duties of staff and clinical pharmacist, including being on-call asneeded.Supervisory or Managerial ResponsibilityManages 1-10 employeesTravelOccasionalMinimum QualificationsEducationBachelor's Degree in Pharmacy required. Advanced degree preferred(PharmD, MBA)Work ExperienceA minimum of 5 years of pharmacy practice, including a minimum of 2 years inan advanced supervisory role required.Special Training, Certification or LicensureCurrent Colorado pharmacy license required. CPR/BLS required.
