DaVita Director, Clinical Innovation in Denver, Colorado

We are looking for a Director of Clinical Innovation to join us as a key member of the Clinical Enterprise team. The Director will provide leadership and direction to a high performing, cross-functional group of teammates focused on driving innovation projects and change initiatives that advance our multi-year objectives, support the transformation of DaVita’s care delivery system, and enhance overall clinical support services. This is an entrepreneurial role that will require strategic thinking, a high degree of collaboration, and creative problem solving, combined with a practical understanding of field operations and clinical process to pilot and launch new solutions.

As a dynamic leader and change agent within the organization, the Director must utilize an analytic and evidence-based approach to source innovation, combined with an execution mindset and a “get stuff done” attitude. This person is expected to lead multiple projects in parallel and will be responsible for determining courses of action in complex and undefined situations that may not be addressed by existing organizational structures, roles, technologies, policies or procedures.

The Director will present out regularly to stakeholders across the offices of the COO, CMO, Field Operations and executive clinical leadership. This is a high visibility role that is critical to the continued optimization of our care delivery model, clinical quality and patient safety.

Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Clearly articulate the “why” behind change programs to create a shared vision

  • Set priorities and focus to ensure project team members and field partners are working toward common goals and are aligned on intended outcomes / results

  • Proactively identify gaps in resource alignment and develop plans to address


  • Translate multi-year objectives into shorter-term goals and help prioritize new initiatives

  • Lead strategic planning for innovation projects including business case development, research, insight generation and recommendations

  • Maintain a broad business perspective and consider how best practices, future trends, and technology could affect care delivery, clinical quality and/or patient safety


  • Leverage hypotheses-based approach to identify, validate and quantify opportunities

  • Lead the testing and implementation of innovation ideas that optimize care delivery, reduce non-value added care activities, and drive patient health outcomes

  • Develop new capabilities and solutions from concept to reality by evaluating alternatives, sizing tradeoffs and ease of execution

Change Management

  • Utilize change management strategies to increase teammate adoption and satisfaction with new processes and ways of working

  • Identify metrics and design measurement frameworks to reinforce change effectiveness

  • Cultivate internal network of field / clinical partners and change agents, provide supportive coaching as needed

  • Top-tier MBA with 2+ relevant experience (e.g. consulting, process improvement, population health operations)

  • Workflow/process innovation experience

  • Proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel

  • Strong influencing skills; track record of successful relationship development and ability to quickly build credibility and gain the confidence of individuals at all levels
