Coder Facility IV (Job ID: 2362)Job SummaryUnder general supervision, reviews medical record documentation to abstractand assign diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers for statisticalclassification and reimbursement purposes. Performs various coding assignmentsunder the direction of Coding Management. Provides feedback regardingdocumentation and coding issues. Utilizes software applications and codingreferences to perform coding related tasks. Additionally, assists intraining, mentoring, and quality assurance of all coding levels asassigned or directed by Coding Management. Required to interact with providersand departments as needed. Demonstrates leadership and teambuilding skills.Facility Performs DRG assignment on inpatient accounts. The level 4 inpatientcoder's primary task is to code inpatient accounts. Proficiency in PCS andDRG coding required. Experience with writing physician queries required. Inaddition to coding Inpatient accounts, the level 4 coder may also be taskedwith other types of coding from level 1-3 work. Professional A Level IVcoder's primary task is coding complex inpatient, observation, surgicaland procedural based areas.ResponsibilitiesKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Applies advanced knowledge of coding andcompliance with a working knowledge of hospital based, teaching physicianguidelines. 2. Knowledge of encoder and data abstraction software. 3. Strongknowledge of billing and reimbursement. 4. Possess good oral and writtencommunication skills. 5. Possess strong organizational skills and the abilityto work independently and meet deadlines. 6. Able to think critically. 7. Mustbe capable of reading and interpreting coding guidelines and making subsequentcoding decisions. 8. Knowledgeable in researching coding related topics andissues. 9. Strong oral and written communication skills with demonstratedability to give professional presentations. 10. Ability to handle a fast pacedenvironment and be a positive role model. 11. Must pass a coding proficiencypre-hire test with 85% accuracy or higher.EducationEducation 1. Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificaterequired.ExperienceExperience 1. Five years medical coding with multi-specialty experience orspecialty certification required. 2. Two years' experience in an academicsetting required. 3. Proficiency in all major specialties. 4. Strongprocedural coding required. 5. Experience reviewing medical recorddocumentation required.CredentialsCertificates, Licenses and Registration 1. Certified Coding Specialist(CCS) required. 2.
