How will a Nurse, BSRN be successful in this role?

  • Under direct supervision of Nurse Manger or designee, responsible for overall unit flow maintaining milieu structure and following program rules and procedures. Responsible for direct supervision of clients and providing training for milieu staff.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the general flow of all staff and client activities on assigned shift.

  • Maintains acceptable attendance and punctuality and is consistently at work and on time.

  • Interacts with client population in order to provide guidance, safety, stability and direction including de-escalating potentially dangerous situations.

  • Professionally interfacing with and maintaining communication with external and internal referral sources.

  • Coordinates treatment referrals for clients that are motivated to seek on-going treatment.

  • Coordinates coverage for unscheduled absences in the absence of the Program Manager or Supervisor.

  • Maintains a high level of client confidentiality.

  • Completes daily shift reports accurately, including critical incident reports (CIRs), refusal and medical screening documentation in accordance with procedures in a timely manner.

  • Attends staff meetings, supervision, and training sessions as required.

  • Monitors staff adherence to cash and property handling procedures.

  • Responsible for tracking and reporting data to state agencies.

  • Responds to and oversees any medical or crisis concern with clients or potential clients.

  • Makes decisions regarding client appropriateness for admission, discharge or transfer to a higher level of care as well as ensuring client safety.

  • Mentors Detox Addiction Technicians and Detox Trainee positions.

  • Assists in coordinating Outreach van assignments during shift.

  • Provides direct client care, intake, discharge, and data entry as needed.

  • Knowledgeable in Emergency and Involuntary Commitment process, including reviewing and accepting EC holds.

  • Oversees medical supply ordering for the unit.

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and biohazard storage.

  • Ensures effective time management of all staff for efficient use of resources and completing tasks in timeline given.

  • Participates in and promotes a positive, supportive, cooperative team environment.

  • Adheres to all Community Reach Center Policies and Procedures.

  • Adheres to Community Reach Center Code of Ethics as well as ethical standards of the field.

  • Must be sensitive to diverse cultural and situational needs of the clients in the program.

  • Provides staff education on medically related topics as needed or as assigned by manager.

  • Responsible for tracking or reposting to the state.

  • Provides care to consumers in a manner that recognizes the human potential, is empathic and demonstrates unconditional positive regard while promoting safety, comfort and the therapeutic environment.

Other Responsibilities (Job Specific):

  • Oversees QMAP medication administering and or monitoring according to CRC policy.

  • Documents accurately immediately following administration or monitoring of medications.

  • Stores, transports, and destroy medications according to CRC policy.

  • Reports all medication errors.

  • Participate in C 2-5 medication counts according to CRC policy.

  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

  • Repeatedly administer blood pressure assessments and inflate blood pressure cuffs.

  • Other Functions:

  • Performs other such duties as assigned within the scope of the position and program description, as well as those reflective of their experience, education and ability.

Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing.

  • Detox or Substance Use Disorder related experience preferred.

  • Necessary Skills:

  • Communication, organization, time management, interpersonal, and evidence informed clinical skills.

  • Familiarity with DSM IV and diagnostic techniques.

  • Organization and time management.

  • Required Licenses / Certifications:

  • Active Colorado RN license.

  • Current BLS Certification or ability to obtain within six months or hire.

  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License with a driving record that meets agency requirements.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office. Proficiency working within specialized software utilized in program. Ability to navigate specialized software related to supervisory duties.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Ability to write clinical notes and summaries in prescribed style and format.
