Humane Society Of Pikes Peak Region Shelter Medicine CVT or Vet Assistant in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Position: Shelter Medicine CVT or Vet AssistantDuties:Provides high level of patient care and appropriate follow-up in conjunctionwith the veterinarians' direction for animals in the shelter requiringmedical treatment. Fills all medications from a central pharmacy and ensures all animalsreceive the appropriate medication. Works with Staff Veterinarians, Surgery Center Manager, and ShelterManager in developing and adhering to current treatment, vaccination andmedical treatment protocols. Assists the veterinarians as required withtreatments and medication orders. Administers treatments per the veterinarian's orders and providesexcellent supportive care for all injured and ill animals. Provides direction for the evaluation center staff regarding animalsundergoing treatment. Maintains medical treatment records and reports in an accurate andtimely manner and in accordance with HSPPR procedures. Updates records in theshelter database with information regarding the health status of each animaland appropriate follow-ups. Communicates with customers and other shelter staff concerning thehealth of animals undergoing treatment. Answers general questions about HSPPRprocedures and veterinary care of animals. Communicates on a daily basis with the shelter veterinarian regardingthe status of animals in treatment. Brings concerns forward and triagespriorities throughout the day by working with shelter staff. Communicates on a daily basis with the shelter manager and animal careand placement coordinator regarding the health status of animals available foradoption and strays requiring medical care. Completes "treatment reviewform" daily for determination of treatment candidates. Reviews all sicks slips by examining and medicating as needed,following medical protocols, and moving animals to appropriate isolationareas as indicated. Assists with Euthanasia as required. Performs in-house laboratory testing as needed, to include fecals,skin scrapings, blood work, etc. Cleans and disinfects kennels and health care areas as needed to ensurethey are maintained in a sanitary and organized manner. Works with and provides training as required for PIMA students andvolunteers. Perform other duties as assigned.Physical Demands:Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.regularly sits at computer station.Must be able to lift, push, and pull a minimum of forty pounds withreasonable accommodations.Must be able to be on feet for extended periods of time.Typically stands, bends, stoops and crouches.Consistently exposed to animals in the workplace and animal allergens underconditions with limited alternatives available.Periodically drives a HSPPR Vehicle to perform duties.Requirements:Associate's degree in veterinary technology from an accredited institution.Must possess a current Veterinary Technician license.Successful completion of a veterinary technician internship or one year priorexperience in a full service veterinary hospital or animal shelterenvironment.Wage: $ Based on experienceShift: TBD - Schedule may include weekend and holiday workSchedule hours - Four (4) 10-hour shifts Tues, Thurs, Fri and Sat7:30 am to 6:00 pmJob Site: Colorado Springs, COBenefits: Health Insurance, 401K with employer matching up to 4% ofsalary Short term disability Insurance Paid time off HolidaysDirect DepositApplication Instructions: If you meet the minimum requirements for thisposition, please click on How to Apply to view application information.
