Summary: RN - Medical East 2 North, Memorial Hospital Central, Colorado Springs, CO
Provides direct patient care using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice and with the policies, values, and mission of the organization.
Medical East 2N (2 East) is an 18-bed medical-surgical unit which provides care to adult and geriatric patient populations. 2 East staff care for a wide variety of acute and chronic medical conditions (ie – asthma, CHF exacerbation, COPD, DKA, DVT, flu, HTN, PE, pneumonia, sepsis, UTI) as well as pre/post-op surgical patients (ie - appendectomy, cholecystectomy, wound I&D). Typical RN to patient ratio is 1:4-5 dayshift and 1:5-6 nightshift. Typical Patient Care Techs (CNA) are at a 1:9 ratio for both day & nightshift.
The medical-surgical nursing field has evolved into the largest nursing specialty, requiring nurses to acquire and maintain diverse and extensive knowledge and skills. We develop our staff to have high-level critical thinking skills, comprehensive knowledge of disease states and body systems, and strong communication and management skills.
FTE Status: Full Time
FTE: 0.9, 72 hours per pay period
Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care plans based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.
Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
Effectively delegates patient care to ancillary personnel. May precept student nurses and new hires.
Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
Graduate of an accredited Registered/Professional Nursing program if less than 3 years experience.
State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider
6 months nursing experience.
ONS chemotherapy/biotherapy cert 6 months for new hires and 1 year for new grads
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)
