Optum Clinical Care Representative in Colorado Springs, Colorado


Coordinate the Provider’s post-visit care plan with the patient. Process and pre-book all follow-up tests, PCP appointments, specialist appointments, ancillary appointments and procedural appointments prior to the patient leaving the clinic. Review educational and resource information with the patient. Distribute hand-outs and appointment cards to the patient. Manage the Walk-In schedule visits for various injections like flu shots and vaccines.

Essential Functions:

  • Schedule consults and appointments with providers.

  • Schedule follow-up appointments and review clinical care summaries with patients prior to patient leaving the clinic.

  • Confirm appointment times with patient, hand out appointment cards, and related educational materials.

  • Pre-authorize and schedule tests, medications, ancillary appointments, referrals and procedures ordered by Providers.

  • Create and maintain file system to review referrals/pre-certification for approvals and/or denials.

  • Prepare patient charts and pertinent documents for PTs and Providers, prior to appointment.

  • Maintain incoming and outgoing faxes, notes and letters and patient documents for Providers.

  • Send consult and procedure notes to Optum providers through Allscripts.

  • Share in the care of office machines and send faxes, make copies, and route incoming materials.

  • Complete blood pressure checks, pulse checks and vaccines as appropriate with appropriate oversight.

  • Perform additional duties as needed.


  • Minimum: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.

  • Certification in Medical Assisting or Healthcare preferred.


  • Minimum: At least one year of medical clerk experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience;

  • Previous experience with referrals and/or pre-certification or clinical back office experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Learn and effectively use company’s Groupcast and Allscripts EHR.

  • Know when to ask or clarify clinical information.

  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.

  • Communicate messages accurately to patients, teammates, and employees of outside facilities such as medical offices and pharmacies in a positive and professional manner.

  • Adapt to a fast-paced environment and multi-task under pressure.

  • Accurately and appropriately document messages in a medical record.

  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills.

  • Accept responsibility and take initiative to proceed without direct supervision.

  • Must be a problem solver, detail oriented, reliable, and a self-starter.
