MasTec Advanced Technologies Director of Safety in Centennial, Colorado

POSITION PURPOSE:

Directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that regular safety audits are conducted. The Director of Safety works proactively and collaboratively with Operations, Support Services, Sales/New Business and Finance to ensure that all safety programs and field programs are aligned with the strategic direction of AT. The Director of Safety must possess the ability to be a champion of continuous improvement among team members and with the various partners across the organization. Director of Safety works closely with MasTec Corporate Safety leaders to drive alignment on strategies and programs ensuring they are arranged in such a way to best fulfill the long-term purpose of our shared Safety vision.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

As the leader in the Safety space, you will support a safety team that uses safety KPIs, lead indicators, telematics, and other critical safety analytics to identify where noncompliance safety behaviors become opportunity for improvement. You will lead your team through successfully • Developing and Maintaining safety initiatives, metrics and programs. • Coaching and partnering with Operations on safety and compliance risk. • Overseeing development and execution of policies, operating procedures, and programs supporting a safety culture and profitable business growth. • Partnering with Supply Chain, Fleet, HR and other organizations that impact field safety programs, initiatives, or operational need. • Own and support management systems for incident reporting, process audits/verifications and regulatory compliance. • Working collaboratively with Learning and Development teams while delivering field Safety leadership training that provides continuous improvements to safety programs. Safety Leadership will be responsible for OSHA 300 Compliance responsibilities. In this role, you will lead your team, and partner organizations, to successfully • Ensure all safety incidents and serious near misses are reported and investigated including root cause determination, establishment of appropriate corrective actions and review of policies and programs. • Establish training for technicians, site leaders and employees on a wide range of safety topics and ensures compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). • Oversee regulatory reporting. • Works with MasTec Corporate leaders and external consultants to optimize third party administration of workers compensation claims handling, risk management services and causality insurance products.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

• Provide leadership of virtual safety teams across 75 or more individual locations.

OTHER DUTIES:

• Keep senior management informed of significant internal and external safety developments. • Monitor the effectiveness of safety and technician training investments including ROI. • Collaborate with Operational leaders regarding safety training, technician training and other related matters. • Lead ongoing safety and learning communications strategies and programs including the effectiveness of resources. • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Attributes:

• Strong knowledge of safety best practices and OSHA requirements. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, proven decisions making capabilities and strategic planning skills. • Expert ability to manage a remote dotted-line staff in a fast-paced environment. • Familiarity with adult learning theory. • Excellent analytical skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. • A strong ability to drive continuous improvement both within your team and the overall business. • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills including relationship building and influencing. • Extensive knowledge of business operations and safety standards, the regulatory environment. • Previous experience in senior leadership roles managing teams to include the coaching, development, and maximization of team’s skills and capabilities. • Highly desirable to have field operations experience. Education • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience • Minimum of six (6) years safety leadership experience required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Position will be located in an existing AT site (preferably near or in a Big 12 market) or Centennial, Colorado. Travel requirements of 60 percent, requires a strong field and Centennial, CO presence. Work is performed in the field and in a normal office environment. Does not require physical activity other than that typically utilized in such a setting, working with standard office equipment (such as copier, phone and personal computers). Availability, willingness, and flexibility to travel by auto or commercial airlines up to 60% of the time with overnight stay is required. Must have valid driver’s license to commute to company sites and field locations. Work outside of normal business hours, including weekends and evenings, is possible and may be required in order to perform the essential functions of the position.
