Boulder Community Hospital Urgent Care Tech in Boulder, Colorado

POSITION SUMMARY

The Urgent Care tech supports nursing in the delivery of patient care within the Urgent Care (UC) setting. The tech provides direct patient care and admissions support. They are responsible for documentation, order entry, stocking/unit supplies and patient transportation within building or to and from car as required. The tech performs interventions under the direction of the RN (Registered Nurse)/NP (Nurse Practitioner) within the legal limits of their certification. If staffed at the triage desk, the tech greets all patients and visitors as needed, initiates a brief history, and vital signs. In collaboration with the RNs, the tech will assist with prioritization of patient flow from the waiting room to the patient care area. The Urgent Care Tech will also function in the role of unit coordinator when directed by the RN to ensure efficient patient flow of the Urgent Care.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education or Formal Training

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

  2. EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) or Medical Assistant training or equivalent training required.

Special Qualifications (licensure, registration, etc.)

  1. Able to work cooperatively with other people and without direct supervision.

  2. Must be able to work under pressure and prioritize patient care and handle duties with organization and accuracy.

  3. Must present a neat and professional appearance and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

  4. BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required by the end of conditional period.

  5. Colorado State Emergency Medical Technician license or national Emergency Medical Technician certification or Medical Assistant certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  1. Proficient in use of a PC (Personal Computer).

  2. Able to type at least 35 wpm.

  3. Use of a ten-key calculator.

  4. Knowledge of medical terminology.

  5. Knowledge and experience with insurance programs a plus.

  6. Exemplifies ENCORE! values.

  7. Ability to interact with all age groups.

  8. Demonstrates positive interpersonal and communication skills in working with the public, other UC staff, and throughout Boulder Community Hospital.

  9. Utilizes standard precautions.

  10. Confidence in basic life support skills.

  11. Organizes and prioritizes work under pressure.

  12. Is physically capable of assisting with lifting and moving patients and/or heavy objects.

Experience

Six months of patient care experience in the hospital, Emergency Department, or other acute care settings preferred.
