Professional Research Assistant
The laboratory of Dr. Edward Chuong seeks to hire a laboratory manager to help drive forward exciting projects in evolutionary and functional genomics. Our research investigates the evolution of gene regulatory networks as they relate to human immunity and cancer. We are particularly interested understanding how genetic parasites known as transposable elements have shaped genome regulation in human evolution and disease. The position will involve designing and conducting experiments as well as duties associated with managing lab operations.
This is a potentially long-term position in a new and growing interdisciplinary lab with ample opportunities to learn new skills at the cutting-edge of genomics. A minimum of an 18-month commitment is required.

Our lab is located in the BioFrontiers Institute in the Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building, and affiliated with the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Mammalian cell culture (primary and cancer lines).
Biochemical assays (e.g. chromatin immunoprecipitation, Western blotting, ELISAs).
High-throughput sequencing library preparation.
Responsible for general purchasing.
Train new lab members.
Document lab protocols.
Maintain lab stocks and inventory.
What You Should Know
The final candidate will need to provide Proof of Degree that can be a Transcript which shows the date the degree was conferred; Copy of Diploma; or official letter from the Registrar or the Dean of the School or College conferring the degree; and a Letter of Recommendation.

What We Require
Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or a related field.
2 years of experience in a molecular biology lab.
What You Will Need
Proficiency in molecular biology and standard biochemical techniques, and outstanding organizational skills are expected.
Proficiency in mammalian cell culture techniques.
The candidate must be self-motivated, communicate effectively, and be a team player.
What We Would Like You To Have
Proficiency with chromatin assays (e.g. ChIP-Seq, ATAC-Seq).
Experience with genome editing techniques (e.g. CRISPR).
Experience with flow cytometry.
Experience with retroviruses/lentiviruses (BSL2 procedures).
