Per Diem - no regularly scheduled hours.

Screens everyone entering BCH Foothills hospital for potential COVID-19 symptoms


Education or Formal Training

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred

Special Qualifications (Licensure, Registration, etc.)

  • None

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

  • Can quickly learn and adhere to often revised protocols

  • Can communicate effectively

  • Can role model exceptional customer service

  • Can remain calm in a high stress, high volume environment

  • Can respond appropriately to potentially angry/disgruntled patients, family members and visitors

  • Can present firm deportment and, if necessary, be assertive in compliance expectations

  • Can de-escalate tense situations and act calmly in times of direct conflict

  • Can assess when backup assistance is needed

  • Can maintain accurate screening tracking records


  • Experience in customer service preferred

  • Experience working with varied personality types preferred

  • Experience working in a hospital setting preferred


  • Non-touch forehead thermometer

  • Excel tracking spreadsheet

  • Windows based tablet or computer


  • Able to go from sitting to standing throughout shift

  • Able to stay in small working space throughout shift

  • Able to wear surgical mask throughout shift

  • Able to wear hospital-provided gloves through majority of shift


Communicates with Information Desk, Emergency, Lab, Imaging and Nursing Unit staff regarding patient and visitor flow.

Can interact with a diverse, multi-generational population

Requires excellent interpersonal skills, patience and professional manner

Requires excellent customer service skills




  • Punctual – must be checked in and ready to start shift on time

  • Question everyone entering the hospital regarding potential COVID-19 symptoms

  • Make sure every employee entering is badged and wearing a surgical mask

  • Take the temperature of everyone entering the hospital using a non-touch forehead thermometer

  • Distribute surgical masks to all patients and visitors, as instructed

  • Become familiar with the basic work flow of the Information Desk in order to be able to relieve the receptionist, as needed

  • Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission Standards

  • Is familiar with organization, department and job specific Environment of Care areas, including Life Safety, Utilities Management, Hazardous Materials Communications, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control and Medical Equipment Failure

  • Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include:

  • The use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses);

  • Handling and disposing of infectious waste appropriately; and

  • Hand washing as appropriate.
