CPAESS employees and sponsors collectively work toward advancingscientific research for the benefit of society.What You Will Do:The incumbent will utilize a solid foundation in population dynamics models todevelop a Population Consequences of Multiple Stressors (PCOMS) model tocharacterize the population responses of cetaceans in the Gulf of Mexico tonatural and anthropogenic stressors with a focus on sperm whales andpantropical spotted dolphins. The incumbent will be responsible for workingwith a team to develop and implement a model, evaluate and presentresults, develop plans for field projects, and provide model outputs toend useThis position will be located at the National Marine Fisheries Service,Southeast Fisheries Science Center in Miami, FL.Responsibilities:Develop computer code to implement two PCoMS models, including documentationand outputs.Produce a comprehensive literature review of anthropogenic stressors on marinemammal physiology and fitness, including methods for estimation of modelparameters and associated uncertainty.Develop the PCoMS modelling framework and approaches, including working withexternal partners to identify key model components and outputs to facilitatemodel application.Writing reports and presenting findings in scientific settings including inpeer-reviewed publications.Develop and implement a comprehensive, statistically sound sensitivityanalysis of all model parameters for two PCoMS models.Contribute to planning and guiding two expert elicitation processes fordeveloping initial estimates of model parameters and associated uncertainty.Assist in planning potential field projects or other data collection effortsthat would help reduce uncertainty in key model parameters.What You Need:Education and Years of ExperienceBachelor's degree in oceanography, fisheries oceanography, marinebiology, statistics, population dynamics or a related discipline and twoto three years of experience as an Associate Scientist I (or equivalentpositioEvidence of scientific productivity through peer-reviewed publications,scientific presentations, or other products.Demonstrated experience developing population models for marine mammals, seaturtles, or other long-lived species is required.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesWorking knowledge of data management systems (e.g., Oracle, SQLServer,MS Access).Working knowledge of statistical and/or mathematical programming languages(e.g., R, S-PLUS, Matlab, C++).Demonstrated experience developing population models for marine mammals, seaturtles, or other long-lived species is required, and experience workingwith marin
