The School of Medicine – ARTS has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Substance Abuse Counselor/Pregnancy and Postpartum Case Manager position.

Job Summary:

The Haven Mother’s House is a residential Modified Therapeutic Community, located on the Ft. Logan campus in Southwest Denver, where women can recover from the disease of addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders in a safe and confidential environment. The program utilizes therapeutic approaches to assist individuals in learning healthy coping skills, acquiring life skills, and changing unhealthy behaviors in order to become self –sufficient, confident, and productive members of society. Treatment is also provided to pregnant and parenting mothers, allowing infants to reside with their mothers in treatment. Bonding and attachment is facilitated between mother and child and parenting groups focus on building positive parenting skills.

This full-time University Staff (non-classified) position is primarily an 8:00 am- 4:00 pm shift, however, must be flexible to work some evenings, 4:00 pm -12:00 midnight shifts, as well as weekend shifts when needed. The ideal candidate will function as part of a larger interdisciplinary team that provides substance use disorder counseling and case management to clients enrolled in the program.

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Facilitate clinical groups and parenting groups. Will also be required to meet with clients individually as needed. Will document all clinical activities; groups, individual counseling and case management, in electronic health care record per agency and licensing standards.

  • Observe UAS, perform facility head counts, monitor medications, and assure safety of the facility

  • Provide prenatal, intra-partum and postpartum support to pregnant and parenting women at the Haven Mother’s House.

  • Provide assistance to clients related to bonding and attachment, parenting in recovery, and substance use disorders as needed.

  • Provide assistance to mothers during mother bonding time as needed to assist with development and bonding issues. Work as part of an interdisciplinary team to assure coordination of care and services for the mother

  • Meet weekly with pregnant clients to develop labor and delivery plans, facilitate bonding and attachment, and provide family resources as needed.

  • Assist clients in the acquisition of benefits to include medical Medicaid, TANF, and CCAP

  • Assist new mother’s in a smooth transition into the Baby Haven Child Care while assuring proper documentation for CCAP and to assist with child care invoicing

  • Attend labor and delivery with clients as available and triage services and discharge planning for mothers. Assure communication with both client and hospital staff and communicate plan to milieu staff and assure medical daps are filled out tracked and filed.

  • Develop relationships with local hospital labor and delivery units, acting as an advocate for birthing mothers in recovery.

  • Provide services to families via interviews and scheduling so families can attend births. Develop visiting plans with families once child is born. Make recommendations to Program Coordinator regarding familial concerns.

  • Collect Baby Data after all births and report to appropriate agencies.

  • Work with DHS or other caregivers to assure the smooth transition of children into their mother’s care, developing visitation and transition schedules, attending team decision meetings as needed, and completing all Baby Intake paperwork. Adhere to all gender responsive standards.

  • Provide information and assistance to staff as needed as it relates to pregnant and post-partum care for women.

  • Other duties as assigned

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position is $38,340 and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is eligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • One year of experience appropriate to the assignment

  • Must presently be certified as a Certified Addiction Counselor Level II or III in the State of Colorado or Master Level counselor

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a substance abuse treatment environment with a focus on women's issues (i.e. trauma ; domestic violence; mental health treatment; parenting and child development ;barriers women experience in treatment such as childcare, employment, finding a job that pays enough to support their family ; etc .)

  • Experience working with pregnant women and babies

  • Experience working with offender population

  • Experience documenting behaviors according to established policies and procedures

  • Experience observing, monitoring and/or intervening in drug/alcohol treatment

  • Experience providing group and individualized clinical care for adult clients

Competencies/Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and ability to learn software programs

  • Experience using an Electronic Health Record

  • Ability to establish boundaries with clients

  • Ability to track client progress through the development and updates of treatment plans

  • Ability to deliver individual and group counseling services

  • Ability to apply ethical guidelines of profession

  • Ability to be nonjudgmental and respectful of others beliefs, values, and culture
