Nature of WORK:
The Department of Emergency Medicine has an opening for a self-motivated, independent, and team-oriented Research Associate. This position is a Research Program Manager position that allows for oversight of a broad research team including research assistants, undergraduate and graduate students, in addition to interaction with industry collaborators. The research program includes both basic and clinical research projects. The individual will work with a senior faculty investigator on personalized medicine and substance abuse related research projects through the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver. The job location will include the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus as well as affiliated institutions in the United States. This will be a collaborative position with opportunity to shape research questions and methods.
The main duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
A detailed understanding of many evolving, complex studies conducted under the principal investigator.
Monitoring and coordinating projects around personalized medicine and substance abuse in clinical settings.
Design and implement research protocols (clinical and basic) for consistent and accurate data collection and management.
Develop, revise and update multiple research documents including all regulatory submissions and reporting.
Budget development, planning and management including monthly accounting for multiple projects
Ability to successfully work independently and collaborate with co-investigators and other institutions. Serve as liaison between collaborators and the PI conducting the studies
Responsible for research program regulatory oversight. Assure that research projects fully comply with requirements of institutional ethical review.
Participate in data analysis (qualitative and quantitative) and preparation of progress reports.
Find and shepherd industry collaboration consistent with the research program topic areas.
Oversee research assistants, graduate students, and undergraduate work-study students working on a variety of projects.
Conduct literature searches/reviews.
Present papers and posters at scientific meetings and may participate in writing papers for publication.
Work with Office of Grants & Contracts to assure experiments are within all Federal mandates and guidelines.
Ability to successfully work in a collaborative, team environment.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the research associate will report to the PI.
Supervision Exercised :
The position will be responsible for supervising professional research assistants (PRAs), project managers, and senior professional research assistants (SPRAs). The individual may supervise professional students including undergraduates, masters student, and doctoral students rotating through the laboratory. The supervision will require assignment of tasks and monitoring progress, timeliness and quality of task completion.

Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, PRAs, trainees and administrators on a regular basis
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple and competing deadlines
Capability to work with biostatistical programs
Experience working in a collaborative, team environment
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $51,000 to $90,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Minimum Qualifications :
Master’s degree in a relevant scientific field
Proficient knowledge of computer-based tools (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
1 years’ experience working with human subjects studies
Knowledge and experience with institutional review board applications
Scientific writing experience
PhD or research related Doctoral degree
Experience with phlebotomy
Clinical trial experience
Experience with developing and maintaining standard operating procedure documents
Prior experience in a higher education setting
1 years’ experience with project management
Scientific writing experience, specifically including peer-reviewed manuscripts
