The Department of Emergency Medicine has an opening for an entry level Professional Research Assistant (PRA). The PRA will be involved in conducting various research studies in a fast paced, large animal translational research laboratory setting in conjunction with multiple grants and contracts related to advanced drug and device development aimed at treating hemorrhagic shock and drug and chemical toxicity. Responsibilities include: study protocol development, database and sample inventory management, maintaining laboratory supply inventories, ensuring compliance with IACUC requirements, and corresponding with internal and external collaborators. In addition, the PRA will assist with analyzing data and preparing figures for manuscripts, grants, and annual reports. The position will require occasional travel (1-2 times per year). The ideal candidate will have knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including: protein assays, ELISA, histology, immunohistochemistry, and cytology. Must be motivated, detail oriented and have the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Duties:
The main duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
Possess the ability to successfully work independently and collaboratively with the research team and principal investigators.
Assure research projects fully comply with requirements of the University of Colorado’s Environmental Health and Safety Department and IACUC regulations.
Assist with sample collection and processing including blood collection, centrifugation, plasma and serum separation, and shipping samples to collaborators at various institutions across the United States.
Data base management.
Participate in data processing, graphing, and statistical analysis.
Assist with maintaining laboratory and clinical research equipment.
Conduct literature searches/reviews.
Ability to work occasional nights or weekends.
May participate in presenting at scientific meetings and manuscript preparation.
Work with appropriate institutional offices to assure experiments are within all federal mandates and guidelines.
Willingness to travel.
Ability to successfully work in a collaborative, team environment.
Completing other duties necessary for completion of research studies.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or equivalent
Willingness to work with animals in a research laboratory setting
Proficient knowledge of computer-based tools (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with phlebotomy
Medical background (EMT/Paramedic, nursing, medical assistant, medical technician, veterinary technician or assistant)
Prior experience working with animals
Knowledge of iSTAT point of care testing
Data analysis skills
