The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Nutrition has an opening for a full-time (unclassified) Professional Research Assistant position.

Nature of Work:
Dr. Sandoval’s research uses rodent models to study the role of the gut-brain-axis in regulation of metabolism in health and with obesity and type 2 diabetes. We use a combination of genetic, viral, surgical, and pharmacological studies to examine mechanisms and potential treatments for obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Examples of Work Performed:
Rodent surgeries: bariatric surgery, catheter implantation, CNS stereotaxic surgeries
Train students and fellows on surgical techniques
Laboratory maintenance: ordering, organization, safety protocols (IACUC, IBC, radiation)
Work with the team to conduct animal studies including study preparation, data collection, and analysis
Perform in vivo experiments, including implant surgeries on rodents, and other routine procedures, such as health monitoring, blood collection, drug administration, and necropsy.
Assist in updating standard operating procedures and protocols for Institutional Animal Care and Use

BS degree in biology or related field is required.
Hands-on experience performing surgeries, dosing, and blood collection procedures on mice and rodents is required.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Conditions of Employment:
Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check
Experience optimizing or developing new surgical techniques.
Experience leading or working within teams to conduct experiments.
Experience developing standard operating procedures for given surgical techniques.
Knowledge of document control methods required in a preclinical environment is desirable, including ability to independently draft standard operating procedures.
Knowledge of IACUC policies.
Ability to draft study protocols and to complete IACUC applications.
