Professional Research Assistant

The Department of Epidemiology in the Colorado School of Public Health offers training and research in cancer prevention, etiology and prevention of diabetes in youth and adults, disease tracking, genetic epidemiology, injury prevention, and many other specialties. The Department’s mission is to provide high quality training in epidemiology, conduct cutting edge population research to advance science and knowledge about causes, consequences, prevention of disease and injury, and translate knowledge to promote health through advancing public health practice and policy.
The Department of Epidemiology has an opening for a full-time 1.0FTE Professional Research Assistant (PRA) - Data Analyst to provide database management and statistical management for an NCI-funded project evaluating the role of pesticide exposure in childhood leukemia.
The PRA will be supervised by Dr. Myles Cockburn, Professor in the Department of Epidemiology.
Examples of Work Performed
Provide database management and statistical analysis for multiple grant funded research projects
Create databases from multiple resources
Check data for integrity
Provide tables, reports, analysis as directed by project leaders
Provide input into publications and interdepartmental projects
Create de-identified datasets as needed for analysis
Conduct analysis of cancer registry data
Provide written methods and results for manuscripts
Provide documentation of analyses.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of epidemiologic research, program evaluation and other patient outcomes oriented research methods
Extensive knowledge and skills with database management and analysis
Excellent verbal and communication skills
Collaborative work skills
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks on tight deadlines
The salary range for this position has been established at $50,000 to $55,000. Actual salary will becommensurate with skills and experience. The University of Colorado offers a full benefits package. Information on University benefits programs, including eligibility, is located atEmployee Services.

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, biostatistics, epidemiology or related field plus 2 years’ data analysis experience
Experience in a research environment.
Master’s degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, public health, health evaluation or social sciences (or related field)
Experience with statistical analysis and software including SAS, SAS Macro, SEERStat and mapping software like ArcGIS and SatScan
Experience working with multiple data sources including interview data, medical records and large administrative data sets
Experience with linkage of medical claims data (Medicare and Medicaid) to primary data
Experience working with multidisciplinary research teams
Experience with data analysis of large administrative data sets
