Position Emphasis:

The research in the Schwartz/Yang Lab focuses on understanding how a combination of genetic factors and environmental exposures contribute to an individual's disposition to develop lung diseases, mainly pulmonary fibrosis. State-of-the-art genetic and genomic approaches, including whole genome sequencing (WGS), transcriptome, epigenome, and proteome studies are used to identify targets and biomarkers of early disease in human cohorts. These targets are then studied in animal and cell models. We use well established animal models of lung injury and fibrosis to study how specific genes or epigenetic marks (potentially heritable modifications to DNA) contribute to disease development. This position will contribute to our human genetics studies by processing human biospecimens and managing the nucleic acid repository. Required skills for this position include experience with processing of human blood samples, DNA and RNA extractions, PCR and qPCR. Additional desirable skills include experience with management of large biorepositories and laboratory robotics. Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills are critical for this position. The position is expected to record data and perform basic analyses of collected data.

Conditions of Employment:

Must be willing and able to occasionally work evenings and weekends when required by project deadlines.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
