Post-Doctoral Fellow

Nature of Work
Vascular calcification is one of the major complications and cause of death in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Currently, CKD affects an estimated 37 million people in the U.S. (15% of the adult population; more than 1 in 7 adults), There is no efficiency therapy available for the treatment of calcification. The major goal of this position is to find a novel therapeutic target for vascular calcification. This position is responsible for characterizing genetically modified mice and cell lines to elucidate the molecular mechanism of vascular calcification. The person will remove genes in the entire genome of cells using CRISPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats) gene editing to examine which gene participates in the pathogenesis of vascular calcification. The study also will require advanced microscopic analyses (such as immunofluorescence confocal live imaging) to elucidate the function of proteins in the development of vascular calcification. The results will be reported in high-impact journals.

Performing general biochemical molecular biological techniques such as quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and immunoblot analysis
Writing papers
Helping supervisor to write grants.

Supervision Exercised
The Post-doctoral fellow does not directly supervise anyone, however, this position will train and mentor Professional Research Assistants, graduate and undergraduate students.
Salary and Benefits:
The salary range for this position has been established at $52,704- $64,008.
Please note, salary will be determined in accordance with current corresponding NIH stipend level.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a PhD or MD.
Requires experience with confocal microscopes and other advanced microscopes.
Requires experience with cell cultures
Requires a publication with confocal microscopes or other advanced microscopes.
Preferred Qualifications
The post-doctoral fellow must have excellent knowledge of techniques of cell biology and advanced microscopies in addition to excellent publication record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
To be successful in this position, candidate will need at least the following: confocal microscopy techniques, CRSPR (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats) gene editing and cell culture works.
