The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus is one of the nation’s premier academic pediatric programs. Its clinical and educational programs are consistently rated among the top 10 nationally by US News and World Report. The Department is seeking outstanding candidates for the position of Section Head of Nephrology. The Section Head will be a leader with a vision towards advancing the Section’s clinical care, research, education, and advocacy missions. She/He will be responsible for directing an established group of faculty, managing clinical practice sites in partnership with Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO), enhancing the sponsored research program, and building strong community relationships in service to a 7-state regional strategy. The Section Head will provide overall supervision of the CHCO Kidney Center and Hospital Department of Nephrology that includes robust kidney transplant and dialysis services.
Examples of Work Performed:
- Collaborate with Hospital and Department of Pediatrics leadership
regarding strategic and operational development of the Kidney Center and
Section of Nephrology.
Oversee all clinical, academic, and research-related activities for the Section of Nephrology.
Oversee the programmatic and financial operations of the Section to ensure financial and human resources are available to support research, clinical care, educational, and advocacy/policy activities.
Develop innovative clinical, educational and research programs to enhance the local standing and national reputation of the Section.
Lead fellowship program in collaboration with fellowship program director.
Support faculty recruitment and the infrastructure for faculty development
Build and maintain partnerships with affiliate institutions and community organizations locally, nationally and internationally.
Direct and strategically expand patient care operations.
Establish strong metrics and outcomes for clinical and academic performance.
Recruit and develop faculty and interdisciplinary professionals to support the clinical and academic missions.
Oversee departmental compliance with regulatory requirements and quality improvement.
Oversee credentialing review and approval of all faculty in Nephrology including initial and ongoing performance evaluations.
Facilitate collaboration in academic and clinical care with other sections within the Department of Pediatrics as well as Departments within the University of Colorado School of Medicine and other health services.

MD, DO, or PhD
Five (5) plus years of relevant academic medical center experience in a progressively advanced faculty role
Board Certified/Board Eligible Pediatric Nephrologist
Conditions of Employment:
Must be willing and able to successfully pass a 10-panel drug test
Must be willing and able to successfully pass a national criminal background check
Five years experience in a leadership role within an academic setting including strategic planning, program development, and financial management
Experience analyzing, interpreting, and improving clinical performance
Ability to effectively communicate with faculty and staff
Knowledge and understanding of academic medicine and CMS requirements
