The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry has just welcomed their new Department Chair, C. Neill Epperson, MD and is in the process of growing the Department of Psychiatry with new programs and expanding existing programs.

Position Summary:

The Clinical Social Worker for the Faculty and Staff Mental Health of Anschutz Medical Campus (AMC) will join the team with responsibilities for mental health care of the faculty and staff of the University of Colorado who work on our campus. Responsibilities include clinical care, leadership in program development, outreach and liaison with various divisions and departments, and some administrative functions. Faculty and Staff Mental Health (FSMH), located in Fitzsimons Building (formerly Building 500) on the AMC campus, is a clinical service recently started June 1 st , 2020. We provide and coordinate mental health and wellness services to approximately 10,000 faculty and staff across schools, clinical care, and researchers on the AMC in Aurora, Colorado.

The FSMH team members include clinicians with different training backgrounds which provide different perspectives and expertise to the team. The team provides initial psychiatric evaluations, ongoing mental health care, and referrals, as necessary. FSMH supports the mission of our medical campus to help effectively address mental health issues that arise for faculty and staff employed by the University of Colorado. Since we are a new service, the clinician will have input about the structure of the service and innovative programming to be developed. The clinical social worker will also help engage with other stress and wellbeing programs on campus so that our service engages as seamlessly as possible with these other initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Must be knowledgeable about mental health and substance-abuse issues.

  2. Must have skills in risk assessment, including suicide and violence risk assessment.

  3. Must be able to develop knowledge about medical professionals and staff, together with the unique challenges they face as it relates to mental health and substance abuse issues.

  4. Must be able to coordinate care with a wide range of healthcare professionals in treating faculty and staff.

  5. Must have knowledge of community resources to supplement therapeutic work.

  6. Must be able to work cooperatively with all constituencies in the Department of Psychiatry including Departmental Chair, Program Directors, and coordination staff.

  7. Should be comfortable developing wellness programs, and comfortable with public speaking.

  8. Should be proactive in learning, development, and problem-solving

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree.

  • Licensed LPC or LCSW in Colorado, eligible to be Licensed.

  • 1 year of outpatient clinic education and counseling

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical specialization or expertise in evidence-based treatment for any of the following presenting concerns would be valued: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness is preferred.

  • 2 years of professional level experience as a behavioral health clinician.

  • Master’s of Social Work and must be Eligible for a Colorado License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Provide initial evaluations together with ongoing treatment for the faculty and staff clinic.

  • Provide clinical diagnosis utilizing biopsychosocial assessments, coordinating with other mental health staff or medical staff when diagnostically appropriate.

  • Provide therapeutic interventions, resourcing, and psychoeducation.

  • Return phone calls or emails from faculty and staff patients

  • Chart patient visits using an electronic medical record.

  • Triage and refer patients as needed to providers who can offer an appropriate level of care.

  • Develop a clinical vision for the development of programs for faculty and staff clinic

  • Develop goals and objectives for the services and programs and all associated practice management duties.

  • Develop programmatic benchmarks and outcomes of effectiveness.

  • Participate in quality- and performance-assessment projects.

  • Develop and organize wellness talks, courses, and consultations.
