The faculty position is with the Division of Geriatric Medicine. Dependent upon experience this faculty appointment may be Assistant or Associate Professor. This position is primarily as a clinician-educator but there will be an opportunity for limited research. This is a full-time, benefited and tenure track position. This position will be covered under the School of Medicine primary care provider agreement and the incumbent will be eligible for all bonuses and incentives that apply under that agreement, as well as any bonuses that might apply through the Division Geriatric Medicine bonus agreement.


The incumbent will work under the supervision or at the direction of the Division Head of the Division of Geriatric Medicine.


The incumbent may provide supervision and direction to University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) clinic staff (nurses, medical assistants, clerical and administrative staff), division staff, medical students, residents and fellows, and other para-professional trainees.


Primary clinical responsibilities include seeing patients in our Seniors Clinic (approximately 5 half-days/week), providing consultative care on the inpatient Geriatrics consult service (includes UCH, VA, SVH), and potentially helping with our nursing home practice, which may include direction and supervision of clinic/hospital staff, students, residents and fellows. Attending responsibilities may also include up to 4 weeks/year on the inpatient Internal Medicine service and rotating one half-day/month attending in the Geriatrics Fellows clinic. The incumbent shares the responsibilities of night, weekend, and vacation coverage with other providers of the group practice and will participate in decisions regarding the practice operation.

Educational responsibilities include:

  • Teaching in a primary care setting (students, residents, and fellows)

  • Participating in an active clinical residency program

  • Curriculum development for medical students, fellows and professional CME programs sponsored by the Division

  • Supervising the geriatric training of Physician Assistant fellows and students, and/or other para-professional trainees.

  • The clinician-educator may collaborate with other faculty in research projects (manuscript preparation, grant-writing process, hypothesis generation, etc.), but is not expected to be a clinician-investigator.


The applicant will be joining a collegial geriatrics division that includes physicians, nurse practitioners, and PhDs. This is a full-time position with varying/flexible work hours, including some evening and/or weekend coverage. The work site(s) may include (but may not be limited to) the University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) Seniors Clinic, University of Colorado (UCD) Division of Geriatric Medicine’s administrative offices, various community nursing homes, UCH inpatient hospital sites, and the Denver VA Medical Center and Community Living Center.


The incumbent must be able to lift at least 30 pounds, and able to sit or stand for more than 1 hour at a time. Incumbent must be knowledgeable in the ethical conduct of human subject research, HIPAA compliance, as well as COMIRB regulations.

  • Have a medical license in the State of Colorado at the time they begin the position

  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine

  • Have completed a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine

  • Board Certified (or eligible) in Geriatric Medicine.

  • ACLS Certified


  • Experience in adult education


  • Excellent presentation and communication skills

  • Strong clinical and teaching skills and an evidence-based approach to clinical care
