The University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS) is seeking a full-time Assistant/Associate Dean for Education with a faculty rank to be determined based on the qualifications of the selected candidate. SSPPS is located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in metro Denver, with state-of-the-art educational facilities designed to foster interprofessional education, superb research facilities to grow the research enterprise, and three hospitals to support and enhance clinical research and practice endeavors.

The Assistant/Associate Dean for Education (ADE) is a tenure-eligible position that reports directly to the dean. Serving as part of the School’s Executive Leadership Team, the ADE functions as the leader for education development, innovation, new initiatives and scholarship based on strong knowledge and use of education theory and practice. In addition to providing education leadership, the ADE also provides administrative leadership for all components (including program logistics with the program administrator) of professional education programs currently comprising the entry-level PharmD (ELPD), North American-Trained Program (NTPD), International-Trained PharmD Program (ITPD) and oversight of other degree and certificate programs including the Masters of Clinical Pharmacy, certificate in Integrative Health and Medicine and other new programs under development, excluding PhD and other MS Pharmaceutical Science degrees and certificate programs. Continuing professional, international and experiential programs and the instructional design service center also are under the umbrella of the ADE.

More specifically, primary responsibilities for this position include promoting curricular advancement, leading successful implementation of curricular change; and supporting innovations and initiatives that enhance student learning and outcomes, continuous improvement of education programs, and professional teaching development and mentoring for faculty in the areas of education advancement, innovation and scholarship. The ADE is expected to work collaboratively and constructively with the dean, the administrative leadership team and the school’s faculty and staff and be a constant advocate for the school, its educational programs, faculty, staff, students and the profession of pharmacy. Specifically, the ADE is expected to collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Assessment in evaluation of educational programs, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in professional education accreditation efforts, Assistant Dean for Student Affairs to create student-centered educational experiences, and department chairs to determine teaching resource allocation. The ADE also oversees accountability for professional education program administrators (e.g., directors of the experiential, continuing professional and international development and distance degrees and programs) in planning and managing budgetary and infrastructure needs for professional and other education programs and the instructional design service center. In addition, this position supervises the following positions: Director of Experiential Programs, Director of Distance Degrees and Programs, Director of Professional and International Development, Instructional Design Service Center Manager, and the PharmD Program Administrator.

Applicants must have a Pharm.D. or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field such as education, pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences or a closely related field. In addition, candidates must have a minimum of five years of teaching experience in pharmacy or a closely related field. Preference will be given for experience in pharmacy education administration, a record of education development, innovation, leadership and scholarship and qualifications for faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor. Tenure eligibility under our school policies is preferred but not required. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and is negotiable.
