QuarterLine is currently seeking a full time, Internal Medicine Physician to join our team at the USAF Academy. As an employee of QuarterLine, you will have the opportunity to treat active duty personnel, military retirees, eligible veterans, and their enrolled family members.

The 10th Medical Group at the U.S. Air Force Academy provides healthcare services to 30,000 beneficiaries, including support to the 4,000-member cadet wing. Their mission is to ensure medically fit forces, provide expeditionary medics, and improve the health of all we serve to meet our Nation’s needs. Today, more than 700 medical Airmen are deployed in more than 30 nations, supporting warfighters in a variety of ongoing an emergent contingency operations.

Specific Tasks: The duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Facilitate patient access to medical care by recommending appropriate referrals to other health care providers in accordance with MTF policies and regulations.

  • Provide outpatient services for patients as scheduled by the Government.

  • Care shall include but not be limited to routine general internal medicine care to include care for acute and chronic patient conditions.

  • Will become the primary care manager for a panel of patients.

  • Duties include managing patient care to include approving/disapproving subspecialty referrals, answering patient telephone consults with the assistance of clinic staff, refilling prescriptions, providing primary and secondary preventative maintenance care.

  • The internal medicine physician shall provide immediate evaluation and management of emergency problems as they occur.

  • Have sufficient experience to be able to adequately diagnose and treat diseases and injuries to include, but not limited to the following:

  • Cardiovascular diseases - congestive heart failure, hyper-tension, arrhythmias, acute myocardial infarction.

  • Respiratory diseases - asthma, bronchitis, pulmonary thromboembolism, and pulmonary insufficiency and adult respiratory distress syndrome.

  • Gastrointestinal diseases - peptic ulcer disease, gastritis, pancreatitis, cirrhosis and alcoholic liver.

  • Endocrinology - diseases of the thyroid, diabetes mellitus.

  • Rheumatology - sarcoidosis, degenerative joint disease.

  • Renal - acute renal failure, urinary tract infection.

  • Infectious diseases - infectious diarrheas, bacterial infections, hospital-acquired infections, infections of the compromised host, tuberculosis, and other micro bacterial infections.

  • Neurology - epilepsy, cerebrovascular disease

  • Have sufficient experience to be able to adequately perform the following medical procedures, to include, but not limited to the following:

  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) interpretation.

  • Graded exercise treadmill testing.

  • Central line placement.

  • Arterial line placement.

  • Intubation and airway management.

  • Hemodynamic invasive monitoring.

  • Lumbar puncture.

  • Paracentesis.

  • Thoracentesis.

  • CPR.

  • Prepare all records and reports as may be required in support of services rendered and as required by the MTF.

  • Take part in clinic Quality Assurance Program as required to meet the standards of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.

     

Other Tasks:

  • All contractors must meet their minimum MGMA performance standard, if applicable.

     

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Experience:Must have a minimum of 24 months in the last 36 months of documented current clinical independent experience and competency as an Internal Medicine Physician. Must have the level of experience and documented current clinical competency to be awarded “Regular” privileges to work independently. Experience working in a Government setting such a DOD or Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) MTF is preferable.

  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support:Current BLS and ACLS is required. PALS is highly desirable.

  • Degree/Education:Physician will have successfully completed an Undergraduate Program, Medical School (M.D. or D.O.), and International Medical Graduates: Graduates of foreign medical schools practicing in the U.S. are required to possess both a medical license and certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or Fifth Pathway. Physicians must have completed Internship, and Residency Program. Completion of a residency or fellowship in internal medicine acceptable to the Surgeon General, HQ USAF, is mandatory.

  • Board Certification:Current board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.

  • Primary Source Verification:Valid unrestricted medical license in at least 1 state, territory or commonwealth of the U.S. and will at a minimum be Board Eligible.

  • Citizenship:  U.S. citizenship. 

  • Credentialing:  

  • Ability to pass background check and drug screen.  

  • Current physical and immunizations.   

      

Preferred Qualifications:    

  • Previous experience working with the military population.  

      

Work Location, Hours, and Physical Requirements: 

  • Physical Requirements: You will be working in a military treatment facility and must be on the premises to perform the job. The environment is fast-paced and multifaceted, with conditions and duties that can change quickly throughout a shift.

  • Hours of Performance: Work week will not exceed 40 hours. Current shift is: 0730-1630 (8-hours).

  • Scheduling: The work schedule will be determined by the government supervisor. Any changes to the schedule will be coordinated through the Clinic Manager or designated representative and shall be mutually agreed on between the MTF and the contractor.

  • Place of Performance: HCWs shall receive a 2-week notification prior to the reassignment to another location with a 40-mile commuting radius of their assigned MTF.
